Performance Module –This module installs under the hood and plugs to the engine. Its primary function is to alter data sent to the vehicle’s computer. The main benefit of a diesel performance module is on-the-fly adjustability (changing power levels while you drive) of different power level for Tow, Economy, Performance or Extreme Performance. On the more advanced units a display provides additional monitoring (digital gauges) and smart features, such as backdown and alerts.
Downloader/Programmer – Often call a tuner reads and stores your stock computer's information, then uploads a new program to the vehicle's ECU. Benefits of these units include no physical parts actually being installed on the vehicle and the overall ease of use. Most downloaders and programmers have 3-4 different power levels for different load levels.
Diesel Performance Chip – This is the original Diesel Performance modification, theses chips work on older 7.3L Powerstroke Diesels. They are available in single or multi power levels with on the fly adjustability. Chips are not available for late model vehicles, but do provide some of the highest possible horsepower gains on early model year vehicles.
